Understanding Lip Filler Treatment

Lip filler is a convenient, non-invasive solution that instantly improves the overall look of the lips. Injections create natural-looking results by reducing fine lines and wrinkles and adding volume and definition. Lip filler is made from a natural water-binding substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). This substance is found in our bodies and has a gooey, gel-like consistency. HA attracts and holds moisture that helps create a plumper, firmer appearance in our skin. However, our HA production slows down as we age, leading to a loss in volume and hydration and an increase in wrinkles and creases.

When HA fillers, like Juvéderm or Restylane, are injected into the lips, they immediately work to attract water. As a result, this temporarily boosts volume in the areas injected and provides a plumper, more hydrated appearance. A unique effect of lip filler is that it can be injected gradually over multiple appointments until the desired results are achieved.

Additionally, the effects of lip filler are not permanent. After lip augmentation, your body breaks down the filler over time. Therefore, treatment will need to be repeated to maintain the results. Furthermore, lip filler is a reversible treatment. The filler injected into your lips can be removed using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. When this enzyme is injected into the lips, it safely breaks down the HA in your lips within a few hours.

Lip Injections: What to Expect

Before augmentation, you and your injector will discuss your treatment goals, medical history, and any concerns. Your injector will examine your lips to decide the best treatment plan, which includes how much filler you will need and what type of filler they will use. Your injector will apply a numbing cream to your lips to minimize pain or discomfort. Restylane and Juvéderm filler contain lidocaine, which further reduces discomfort during your treatment.

Once your lips are numb, your injector will begin injections using a fine needle or cannula. Multiple injections are administered throughout your treatment as needed to achieve the desired effect. Additionally, your injector may massage and sculpt your lips to help distribute the filler evenly. You may experience pinprick sensations or a slight burn as the needle is inserted into your lips. However, most patients feel little to no discomfort during their lip augmentation. In general, the entire procedure takes 15 to 30 minutes.

After the procedure, your lips may be swollen or bruised. These side effects can last up to one week. Aftercare instructions will be given to you so you can best care for your lips and maximize the benefits of your treatment. Aftercare may include icing your lips to reduce bruising and swelling and avoiding sucking from a straw or kissing. Additionally, you may need to avoid extreme temperatures and eating spicy foods. Pain medication can also be taken if required. It is important to follow aftercare protocol to ensure optimal results.

Lip Filler Results*

Results from lip filler are noticeable immediately. Most patients on Long Island see a dramatic improvement in lip wrinkles and definition and plumper, hydrated-looking lips after their treatment.

On average, clinical studies reveal that 98% of patients reported achieving their lip fullness goal following their lip filler treatment. Additionally, over 80% of patients were still satisfied with their treatment results by the one-year mark. As with any aesthetic treatment, results and patient experience may vary. Therefore, realistic expectations are important when considering aesthetic procedures such as lip filler injections.*

Lip Filler FAQ’s

How Often Do I Need to Get Lip Filler?

On average, a touch-up every 6-12 months is recommended to maintain your results.

How Long Does Lip Filler Last?

When comparing HA lip fillers, results last anywhere from 6 months to one year. However, patients metabolize and break down filler at different speeds, so the longevity of lip filler varies. Additionally, the brand of lip filler used and how much lip filler is used during treatment will also impact the longevity of lip filler.

How Can I Prepare for Lip Filler Injections?

Avoid taking medication like ibuprofen and aspirin one week before your lip filler procedure. Also, avoid supplements like vitamin E or fish oil, which can increase bleeding and bruising. Additionally, avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment to prevent increased bruising and swelling.

How Much Do Lip Filler Injections Cost on Long Island?

The cost of lip injections cost varies for each North Shore Medical Wellness patient. Factors like the amount of filler used, the formula used, and the experience and expertise of the injector all influence the overall cost of lip injections. Currently, one syringe of lip filler ranges from $500 to $1000. At North Shore Medical Wellness, our injectors create a unique treatment plan that’s specified to your cosmetic goals and budget.

What are Russian Doll Lips?

Russian doll lips are a method inspired by the lips of Russian dolls. This technique creates height and plumpness in the center of the lips. Additionally, Russian doll lips are defined by specific characteristics. These include a more defined cupid’s bow, added height, and an enhanced heart shape with most of the volume in the center of the lip.

Can Lip Filler Results Look Natural on Long Island?

Yes, they can. However, seeking an experienced injector is crucial for a natural-looking lip enhancement. Restylane Silk or Juvéderm Volbella are both favorable options for those desiring a more subtle-looking lip enhancement. This is because they are made of a thinner gel consistency.

What is Better Juvéderm or Restylane Lip Filler?

When comparing these two HA filler brands, differences in result and duration are minimal. Both filler collections work very well and deliver impressive results. However, there are a few differences to consider. While both brands last between 6 and 12 months, Juvéderm lip filler may last slightly longer than Restylane. Additionally, Restylane and Juvéderm offer different formulas that produce different results. For example, Restylane Kyssé and Juvéderm Ultra XC have a thicker consistency. As a result, they are ideal options for someone looking to create more volume and achieve dramatic results.
